A look at what is currently available on eBay
Should i get a canon t3 (with the 18-55mm and 75-300mm lenses) or a nikon d3100 (with only a 18-55mm)?
both bundles cost the same
i saw this website:

and im leaning towards the d3100
but my dad (who's paying for the camera) is looking for a (v)dslr that's cheap and can take video
and i believe he'll end up taking the canon even though it cannot capture as detailed photos as the d3100.
is it really that big of a difference?
You may not notice that much difference right away, but after you have the camera for a while and are really getting into photography, it may make a difference. The big thing here is the Canon vs. Nikon. Both are excellent companies and it really comes down to taste. I suggest you and your father go to a camera store and try both cameras to see which company you want to be with for the foreseeable future. I chose Nikon.
