I'm looking into buying a digital camcorder - the details are:
DVD quality video, 4x digital zoom.

DVD quality video means roughly non-HD quality. A resolution around 720x480 pixels maximum. A true DVD quality signal will show reasonably well on any TV, old or HD.
However, any camera that says 4x digital zoom (with no optical zoom) usually means it's a low end (cheap) camera to start with. Don't expect great things out of this camera.
