What is the best video camera out there?

I am in the phase of where I need a good HD video camcorder for a good deal.
Under 1000 if possible!!! I do lots of video projects personally and different video and technical jobs. Please Help!

It depends on your budget. The "best" would probably be the Red One.

For high-end professional cams, I like the Canon XF300 series and Sony XDCAM series.

For midrange professional cams, I like the Panasonic AG-HVX200, Sony HDCAM series and Canon XLH series.

For low end professional cams, I like the Sony HDV-Z5 and Z7; Canon XHA1 and JVC GY-HM100.

For prosumer cams, I like the Sony HDR-FX1000.

For high end consumer cams, I like the Sony HDR-HVC9, Canon HV40, Sony HDR-CX500 series and Canon HF S series.

Below this there is not much difference - except the Alesis Video Track and Zoom Q3 and Q3HD have great audio control that others in the same price range can't approach.
